Microsoft relaunches Copilot with Home, Code and Autopilot

What happened
Microsoft has redesigned the Copilot app around three areas: Home, which brings Chat and Cowork together with Word, Excel and PowerPoint built in; Code, which lets non-developers build apps and automations that run securely inside the organisation; and Autopilot, an always-on agent that keeps working on tasks while the user is away. Home and Code roll out to the Frontier programme over the coming weeks, Autopilot moves to private preview, and new FinOps for AI tools track Copilot and agent spend.
Why it matters
Copilot is moving from an assistant that answers questions to a platform where staff build tools and hand whole tasks to agents. That can increase productivity, but it also means more apps built outside IT, agents acting for people, and AI costs that are harder to predict. Organisations that have only thought about Copilot as a licence decision will need governance, spend controls and new skills.

Before Home, Code and Autopilot reach general availability, agree who may build and share Copilot apps, which tasks agents may carry out alone, and who owns the AI budget. Run a controlled Frontier pilot with one business team.
