Anthropic launches Claude Opus 5 as its everyday model for work

What happened
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5, which it says comes close to its top Claude Fable 5 model on many tasks at half the price. It is the new default on Claude Max and is also available on Amazon Bedrock, with pricing unchanged from Opus 4.8.
Why it matters
Near top-tier capability at mid-tier cost changes the economics of rolling AI out widely. Anthropic positions it for knowledge work, coding and long-running tasks, which is where most firms want everyday gains.
